In the story “Mutability” and the poem “Immutable laws”, a reader can understand the changes throughout one’s life can determine what happens next or where a person goes in life. Percy Shelly explains how a person can excel or struggle with the changes thrown at them through their lives in the story, “Mutability”. Where as, in “Immutable laws” by Victor Frankenstein one can understand that everybody has a destiny and things that happen are meant to be. While being compared and contrasted, these two authors have the same ideas with different beliefs.

In Percy Shelley’s story, “Mutability” it is to be understood that the changes in one’s life can make or break a person. In other words, the hardships one may have in a lifetime can determine what step they may take next. For example, a wrecked car can cause a hardship in one’s life and can determine how things can play out. However, there are also positive changes in people’s lives, for example, a raise at a job can have an impact, big or small, on one’s life. Therefore explaining that change can be negatively or positively impacted, depending on the change made and the situation applied. Change is not always a bad thing and many times rather than not can give people a fresh start and turn their whole life around when making choices for themselves.

On the other hand, in Victor Frankenstein’s “Immutable laws”, one can understand that each person has a destiny. This means, everything that happens in one’s life must happen for a reason. For example, it rains to prevent droughts. It rains for a reason. In the poem, other examples of his destiny are shown why things happen when and why they do.

Both of these authors have very similar ideas however the explanations are very different as to the changes in life, good or bad. In “Mutability” the idea is why do the things that happen, happen? Not because it was destined to happen a certain way, it was just meant to happen the way it does with the circumstances of the situation. In “Immutable laws”, the idea is every person has a destiny for the things in their life that are planned to happen before they even know it is happening.  Everything happens for a reason. For example, if something bad happens, there is another reason to be shown why it happened. In both poem and story however, they show the situations good and bad can heavily impact every person’s life with a different circumstance. 

In conclusion, both ideas form a central idea to be compared and contrasted against. Some believe things happen for a reason and others believe it happens just because. Every situation can impact a person in different ways and the story and the poem show this to a reader to better understand both authors ideas and understand how they correspond with each other.

The use of technology in the classroom is something that has been debated over for years now because of the good things about it and the bad things as one does not outweigh the other. Technology is essential to human life now as it is used daily and by a high percentage of the population as nowadays students in elementary schools even have cell phones. After reading “Educated” by Tara Westover, I found that she did not have the technology that other kids may have had if they went to public schools. Tara had books put in front of her and she was expected to learn on her own. So when thinking about this I found that this example represents two things with the use of technology; She learned perfectly fine with just using textbooks and was able to attend college, but she did not have the new books or the teachers or technology they may have used in the classroom at the time to help her further succeed.

All of the articles used for this bibliography all have the same problem mentioned before, all of the pros have cons and all of the cons have pros in most cases. There is a wealth of articles and studies on this subject which shows how much debate there is and how much it may impact student life in and outside of the classroom. Two of these articles found explain good things about the use of technology and two of them explain bad things about the use of technology. 

After looking at these articles, it is good to review and reflect on thoughts about the use of technology. Although it is hard to think about what it would be like with less technology or even better technology, it is good to keep an open mind when dealing with this because of how much it impacts humans lives today as the whole world is revolved around the use, expansion, and betterment of technology.

“Use of Technology in Teching and Learning” explains the potential uses and usefulness of technology for teachers as well as students. The source explains ways that the technology use is good in and outside of the classroom saying that, it is more engaging, more motivating, and may accelerate learning as students are exposed to more information and ideas while using technology. The use of technology also comes along with online learning/classes that may be taken at the students choosing giving them options when learning giving more opportunities. It also gives students far more resources and ideas to incorporate in the classroom as you can find plenty of atricles, online books, and even the online classes taken can help further education.

This is important to educators and students because this shows how beneficial the use of technology can be in students lives and also in educators lives as it can help teach students. The integration of technology, according to this article, is very important because of how the world is today and how focused it is on furthering learning and technology.

“Is Technology Good or Bad for Learning” represents two points of veiw on the subject of use of technology. Is has good pros on cons brought forward and used to argue for each side. This source uses a great number of studies done in the past on this topic to explain why and how it is possible for these satistics used to be true. Most information gathered in this article is from studies down on lower aged people and explains that technology use is a necessary 21st century skill that has to be aquired by people nowadays. It also explains that the use of technology spreading is necessary because if it isn’t across all groups then in the next coming years it will be found that their is a gap between people that has to do with the skills and opportunities aquired through technology.

This particular article is very useful as it shows both sides to the argument and has clear data showing pros and cons on the subject. It also does not say that there are better pros or cons than the other which is very good.

Tara Westover’s memoir, Educated, is about her life growing up uneducated because of her father’s beliefs and how he sees the world. She has other siblings, there are 3 brothers, that have grown up and gone against her father’s wishes by going to either school or leaving home to go to work somewhere else. The most previous brother to go against the father was Tyler and he has left to go to college. Chapter 5 talks a lot about this brother and Tara’s experience with him being at home and leaving. 

At the beginning of the chapter, “Honest Dirt”, on page forty-three, Tara begins with the statement, “The Story of how Tyler decided to leave the mountain is a strange one full of gaps and twists”, this quote really stood out because of how Tara used the mountains features to describe how rough/complicated it was when Tyler left the mountain. Tyler would come out and say what his plan was and why he was wanting to leave to his parents knowing his father was very against it. His father did not believe school was useful and he needed Tyler to work on his crew so that he could still get jobs done without struggling anymore than he already does. This is one of those gaps because his father will continually argue against Tyler leaving even though Tyler is old enough to make his own decision, and does, his father will always say he is wasting his time and money. Having to deal with his father was probably not an easy thing as he had no support for what he was doing and would be completely on his own so when something went bad, he wouldn’t have his parents to turn to as a lot of other kids would. Tyler being taken out of school and being cut off from the world did not hurt him until he decided to go back out into the world because he was now behind compared to everyone else and this was caused by him not being able to socialize and nobody ever homeschooling him properly as it should have been done. This caused another gap for him as he eventually regretted leaving. Tyler had no guidance, nobody to rely on, not a clue what he was doing, and didn’t have much of a reason to leave other than he wanted to be educated beyond what he was being taught at home. He found it very difficult to be on his own and spent five years apart from his family before returning.

Their father had always look down on Tyler for reading while he should be working and studying while he had other things to do in the morning. This made Tyler feel that nobody felt he could go anywhere in life just being book smart because of how his dad’s philosophies had shaped his own. Tyler was sort of the black sheep of his immediate family at this point in time  because of his weird interests and his speech impediment which made it difficult for people to converse with him. Tara, the main character, found her brother interesting after she had encountered and listened to some of his music that he had in his room. This sort of bond they ended up creating had never been there before because even she said she had barely known anything about Tyler. Tara began to get to know Tyler through this shared interest of music showing us that Tyler wasn’t all that different from his family members causing him to gain some confidence and decide to leave home. 

Tara also uses a short but meaningful sentence to describe Tyler’s personality which is, “While his brother’s wrestled, Tyler listened to music.”(44) showing what type of person he is. This also shows that there is a bit of uncertainty from Tara about her brother Tyler because of how she only states that he listens to music and made it seem as though wrestling is what he should be doing by putting it before the music. It shows really just how different he is from the rest of his family and it is also another example that makes apparent that he is the black sheep. With this being the case, this quote is also the reason that Tara and Tyler had bonded so easily because she was young and her mind was still open to new things unlike her older siblings and parents. She had never thought of the music as being something important or nice which is why she had made the statement comparing his brother’s to him the way she did. Once sitting down and listening she realized that maybe it was intriguing and maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing giving the two of them something to share the same interest in. If this wouldn’t have happened  the way it did Tara would have never been so close with Tyler and he would not have went to college at least for a while.

Through all of this we can see the character development Tara had gone through because of this point in her life with another one of her brother’s leaving, but we can also see how Tyler had decided to take his life into his own hands and try to create a better future for himself. Tara had a lot to do with this because she had boosted his self esteem and had been interested in what he was interested in unlike his other brother’s along with his parent’s. He was very determined to chase what he wanted and had endured all the gaps and twists that he would go through in order to leave and succeed on his own.

To begin, research can be conducted in many different ways from observational to experimental research. With this in mind, humans conduct research on a daily basis whether or not they think about it as research. In my case, most research I have conducted has had to do with classes in school, mainly English classes and the American Government class that I have already taken. Even within these different classes I have done a lot of different research to go along with what assignments were given at the time.

Some research i’ve conducted in the past was/is formal research in the fact that instructors would give me a topic in that subject area or have me choose a subject then want specific questions answered on the topic chosen. For example, I had to write a final research paper for my english class last semester and present information found to the class for a grade. The instructor let us choose the topic to research but wanted it done in specific ways and we were told to present the information as if the person listening knew nothing about it whatsoever. So, even though she did not give us questions to be answered she still wanted the research and presentation of that research done in a specific way. I also did a lot of formal research in my American Government class because when researching and writing there were certain questions that needed to be answered given by our instructor and there was a very specific way the instructor wanted this research done. I remember on one paper we were researching and answering some questions that had to do with laws. With this, she gave us a few questions to answer while researching whatever was wanted done. I’ve also done some informal research where I was given a topic and told to research it and bring my findings to class. I find this a lot easier than formal research because when given specific questions to answer I find it harder to answer in depth instead of just answering the question with what i’ve found. If I do the research and am told to write my findings without any guideline questions I find it easier to come up with conclusions and ideas on how to write my research and maybe find things that many people didn’t know.

When reading chapter 26 in the Norton Field Guide, I came across the sentence, “In fact, just about every course you take in college will require writing, so to write successfully, you must understand the rhetorical situation of your writing in every course and discipline — to write as if you’re an insider, a member of the discipline, even if you’re just learning the ropes.” This quote from the text, I feel, speaks to something that I am decent at doing but also feel I can be better at. After reading this, it really made me think of all the writing that i’ve done and all the classes i’ve completed writing in because already i’ve had the opportunity to write for many different instructors and get some diversity in my writing instead of just writing for an english class. This quote is something that I feel is very important to academic writing because if you are not confident in your own writing then the reader may be able to see that and instead of looking like a good writer you just look like an amatuer.
